Brightly ethics & business principles

Our ethics policy supports us in ensuring we do the right thing by our people, our communities and the environment.

What we stand for

We support organisations, communities and the environment through the strategic use of technology.

We want to grow businesses using our range of IT services and make a positive impact as we work with companies to ensure their technology infrastructure drives efficiency, innovation, encourages sustainable growth, and reduces their environmental footprint.

What drives us

Our company values are at the core of everything we do. We believe in:

  • Creating a company culture that promotes respect, understanding and knowledge.

  • Building a community with diversity and equality that works towards a sustainable, regenerative future.

  • Encouraging an environment to have fun and make an impact.

What matters to us

A diverse, inclusive
& equitable workforce

We’re creating opportunities and career pathways, with a focus on expanding diversity in Aotearoa’s tech sector.

Values-aligned
partnerships

Through charitable and sponsorship partnerships, we’re putting our support behind important initiatives that align with our vision for a more sustainable and equitable future.

Better ways to
do business

We’re supporting more purpose-driven businesses and not-for-profits in creating and scaling impact through better ways of doing business.

Sustainable growth

We’re off-setting our own carbon footprint, creating a more sustainable supply chain and promoting the reduction of e-waste through our clients.

Kaupapa Māori

We acknowledge Māori as tangata whenua and are actively working to become a good partner under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Giving back

We donate 1% of our revenue through the One Percent Collective, through not-for-profit initiatives and through direct donations to charities suggested by our team.

Operational transparency

As a certified B Corp, we continually measure and report on our impact and our areas for improvement across five accountability pillars: Governance, workers, community, environment and customers.

Financial transparency

While we’ll only recommend the right solutions to meet the needs of your business, as a Microsoft Partner we do benefit from the selling of Microsoft products.

Who we work with

We’re building diversity into our network

Our preference is to partner with local and diverse suppliers and product providers. Through our supplier selection process, we opt for local providers, consider diversity of representation, and prioritise partnerships with organisations who are also contributing to wider social good initiatives through their own work.

We ensure it’s the right fit

Our supplier code of conduct guides us in determining whether a client, partner or project is going to be the right fit for our organisation. Our values and underlying ethos have helped us decide where we draw the line. For us this means not engaging with organisations who compromise on human rights and equality, undermine social development, do unnecessary harm to the environment or participate in what we consider unethical or irresponsible operations.

What our clients say

“With Brightly, we found a business with really good ethical values and sustainability credentials, as well as a team who were able to support the kind of business needs that we have.”

Josh Borthwick, CEO

How we work

We’re a living wage
accredited employer

In response to growing poverty and inequality for Kiwi workers, we partnered with Living Wage Movement Aotearoa as a commitment to paying Brightly employees a living wage.

We support low-impact transport for our team

To reduce travel emissions, we encourage remote working, and when commuting to and from work, our team travels on e-bikes or via public transport. All Brightly employees are offered company funded AT HOP cards as part of our commitment to encourage sustainable commuting options.

A greener work
environment

Brightly HQ is located in GridAKL, a shared office space and a Green Star-rated building, with energy efficient air-conditioning and environmentally sustainable LED lighting.

We’re creating career pathways
into tech

We’re partnered with AUT’s Co-operative Education programme to offer final-year business students internships opportunities. To help promote greater representation in tech and ensure diversity through our own recruitment practices, we also engage with different industry groups and initiatives who aim to educate and inspire local talent.

A fulfilling and fair
place to belong

We take a generative approach to company culture, one that is focused on achieving a shared mission through a de-emphasised organisational hierarchy, good collaboration and high levels of trust. We hire high-performing people while prioritising cultural fit and values alignment. Our employees are offered learning and development opportunities in a supportive, flexible working environment.
