Brightly’s B Corp Recertification

We’re proud to share a significant milestone in our journey with B Corp: our recent recertification.

We first achieved B Corp status in 2020, and in order to maintain certification, we need to recertify every three years. Recertification represents our commitment to maintaining high standards for the long haul, continuing to focus on improvements and making positive changes in the way we operate and support our customers. It enforces our belief in balancing profit and purpose, and it confirms our views that it’s possible to thrive while providing socially and environmentally responsible services.

We’re especially proud of the significant improvement in our overall B Impact Score, going from 80.9 after our initial certification, to recertifying with 106.8!

Where we’ve improved

The B Impact Assessment considers social and environmental impact across five key pillars: governance, workers, customers, community and the environment.

We had our biggest increases across governance (6.1 to 16.1), Environment (23.8 to 31.0) and customers (2.4 to 9.2). Our Toitū certification in February (2023) has contributed to our significant improvement for our environmental score. Our increased governance rating comes down to work we’ve done around ensuring our purpose to help organisations adapt and drive positive impact for the environment and our communities is fully locked into our company constitution. We’ve also taken strides to be transparent in measuring our progress by publishing our Business Impact Report

The B Corp recertification is a rigorous process and one that we remain committed to. Given the substantial data we need to present, gathering and submitting the information and documentation took a massive effort from our team and we want to acknowledge the work it took to get our recertification complete.

Since our original certification, we’ve put new process in place around measurement and reporting of key metrics that will continue to support our recertification applications. This process also helps us understand where there’s still work to be done and what areas of our business we need to focus on further with improvements.

While we proudly share our B Corp Certification logo, this isn’t a marketing-driven undertaking. Our mission is woven in our DNA, and this assessment holds us accountable to our values and business ethics. It helps us measure our success by what matters most to us: the positive impact we can create for our people, our communities and the environment.

What is B Corp Certification?

B Corps are mission-driven companies who want to balance purpose and profit. Companies who are certified as B Corp have met (and uphold) high standards for social and environmental impact, with a clear commitment to stakeholder governance, accountability and transparency of operations. The assessment process requires answering detailed questions on things like employee benefits, supply chain practices, diversity and handling of customers. Companies must score at least 80 out of 200 points to achieve certification.
